Become A Hero On Sunday 13th May 2018.
The HEROES RUN returns to Brighton on Sunday May 13th in aid of local charity RISE. This is truly a wonderful cause to get the whole family involved with, choose from a 10K, 5K, 500m Dash or the Kids Youth Mile and run and dig out your most HEROIC costume to join in the fun along Hove Promenade to help raise funds for a much-needed children's counselling service at RISE.
A Brighter Future
Seeing, hearing and experiencing abuse can have a profound effect on children. 90% of them will be in the same or next room when something happens. They might be anxious and scared, wet the bed, be angry or depressed or find it hard to make friends.
Children often don’t have the language to express what’s happening, what they’ve seen and how they feel, which is where RISE can help.
Every penny raised from the HEROES RUN will go directly to fund the Child Therapy Team at RISE, Brighton’s award winning domestic abuse charity. Help local children improve their mental health and give the hope of a brighter future.
The RISE Child Psychotherapist works with children to help them build self-confidence, have more positive relationships, and work through their experiences in a safe and nurturing environment.
“He really is opening up like a little flower, and the cuddles I am now getting are AMAZING. A year ago I would not have thought it possible - he would just push me away when I tried to love him. I will always be grateful for your help in his journey; the support for all of us has been life changing for our little family.” RISE Parent
The impact of domestic abuse can be seen at home and school. A child may be extra disruptive in class, or might withdraw into themselves. Therapy helps them make sense of their experience and feel safe, loved and supported.
“He is still full of beans, but is almost unrecognisable from the angry, aggressive, frightened boy he was in January.” RISE Parent.
If every HERO raises just £20, RISE can fund this role for 2018/19, and every extra penny on top will help reduce waiting times.
Once you have signed up, you can set up a JustGiving page to help with your HEROES fundraising. This is super-simple to set up and is directly linked to the charity and the run.
Note, you will not need to be a serious runner to join in with the fun. The HEROES RUN is all about taking part, you can run, jog, walk or even crawl. The important thing if that you're there on the day helping RISE to fundraise.
