The casualty was unaware of what the terrain beneath the cliffs was like and became disorientated and exhausted.
Newhaven Coastguard were called at 7pm last night (Tuesday 12th June) to the Rushy Hill Caravan Park area after a report from Sussex Police of a person in difficulty below the cliff.
Brighton Lifeboat which was just mooring up after a previous incident was also tasked.
The casualty was located with a bike on the rocks below the caravan site. They were trying to get from Newhaven to Peacehaven as part of a bike ride but wasn’t aware of the terrain and became exhausted and disorientated.
Brighton Lifeboat evacuated the casualty and the bike back to the Newhaven Lifeboat station where a warm cup of tea and a further health assessment was made.
2 shouts for our crew tonight. 1st at 17:50 to a broken down vessel 3nm SW of Marina. Vessel towed to safety. We was then re tasked to a person cut off by the tide at Newhaven.
