...I still want to be a radio presenter.
I bowl in at midday and play 6 songs from a particular year that we've dragged out of The Vault.

On Monday they were from 1997:

    Kula Shaker - Hush
Mighty Dub Katz - Magic Carpet Ride
Monaco - What Do You Want From Me
    Coolio - I’ll C U When U Get There
    Hanson - Mmmbop
    Radiohead - Paranoid Android

Tuesday's lot are a bit older, from the year that Avril Lavigne was born in fact.

And there's some ZZ Top amongst the tunes featured.

Before 3pm we'll also give away another pair of Beachdown Festival passes and tickets to see those Ladyboys of Bangkok next week...

    A domani allora.

Which could be true, but when it comes to songs from 30 years ago...if you still like 'em then that's all that matters right?

This lot from Friday's Vault were from 1978:

    Frankie Valli - Grease
    Bill Withers - Lovely Day
    Billy Joel - Moving Out
Shalamar - Take That To The Bank
Kate Bush - Man With The Child In His Eyes
Abba - Take A Chance On Me

On Monday, we're back at midday with another one...this time from the year that Titanic became the biggest movie of all time (still not seen it)

The UK had a new P.M in the shape of Tony Blair (remember him)

And, look out, might play Hanson.

I'm still coming to terms with the fact that I neglected to bring along 5ive's 'Let's Dance' to play in the Vault today - it was due to appear after Feeder in this selection from 2001:

Basement Jaxx - Where’s Your Head At?
    Feeder - Buck Rogers
    Superman Lovers - Starlight
    White Stripes - Hotel Yorba
    Eve - Who’s That Girl
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Road Trippin’

On Friday there'll hopefully be some more sun (although it's not looking so promising now), along with 6 songs from a long time ago...

The recently axed Grange Hill actually began on the telly...flipping 'eck Benny!

Apparently Katie Holmes is real and does exist, just like her marriage to Tom Cruise, and she was born in this year.

We're spoiled for choice for classic discs to spin but there may be some Kate Bush in there somewhere.

    Be seeing you

  • Yes it's sunny, get over it...

Actually I'm not that much of a curmudgeon, it does make quite a difference when the sun makes an appearance.

Had fun on Wednesday anyway with The Vault from 1994:

Jam & Spoon - Right In The Night
    Beck - Loser
    Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
Pato Banton - Baby Come Back
    Oasis - Live Forever
    Cranberries - Zombie

On Thursday they ain't that old but, as ever, we'll try and avoid the obvious...

It was the year that John Prescott punched a farmer

Harry Potter and his Philosopher's Stone was captivating the nation on the big screen.

And Feeder or Five could be among the tunes...haven't decided yet at time of writing.

    Cheers then

Anybody remember the cartoon strip that the little signs saying that used to appear in?
I'd even consider giving the first person to tell me some sort of prize, as it's driving me nuts.

Anyway, welcome back if you had the BH Monday off. The Vault at midday on Tuesday was from 1982:

A Flock of Seagulls - Wishing
Chas & Dave - Ain’t No Pleasing You
Tears for Fears - Mad World
Dionne Warwick - All The Love In The World
Kid Creole & The Coconuts - Stool Pigeon
Soft Cell - Say Hello Wave Goodbye

Enjoyed those immensely and of course it's all about me me me this feature.

On Wednesday we're a bit closer to home with the year that not even Andie McDowell could ruin the excellent Four Weddings and a Funeral at the cinemas.

The channel tunnel was officially opened

And we'll play you something by Irish reggae superstar Pat O'Banton.

We did a Vault of sorts on Bank Holiday Monday at midday...it was made up of movie themes that are far more memorable than the film they were taken from:

    David Bowie - Absolute Beginners
Diana Ross - Theme From Mahogany (!)
    Bjork - Play Dead
Phil Collins - Against All Odds
    Kenny Loggins - Footloose
    Steely Dan - FM

Slightly self-indulgent but we're back to normal on Tuesday with 6 songs from the year that Spurs won the FA Cup.

Billie Piper's apparently pregnant now so it seems weird to think that this was the year she was born.

And I probably won't be able to resist playing some classic Soft Cell - but it won't be Tainted Love!

...right in the middle of one of my busiest ever shows!

Still we'd already got The Vault out of the way by then, it was from 1989:

Queen - I Want It All
Double Trouble + Rebel MC - Street Tuff
    Madonna - Dear Jessie
    REM - Orange Crush
Morrissey - Last of the Famous International Playboys
Deborah Harry - I Want That Man

Back as usual on BH Monday, with a themed Vault though I think at midday.

Well done to John Prince from Brighton who won the big hospitality package at Withdean tomorrow for the Albion v Swansea.
Thanks to Howlett Clarke Solicitors for providing that: www.howlettclarke.co.uk

    Have a great weekend

...so I think I've missed another day out here on the blog.....meh!

A real mix of stuff out of Thursday's Vault anyway from 1992:

    Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode
    Black Crowes - Remedy
Take That - A Million Love Songs
    Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
Was Not Was - Shake Your Head
Dr Alban - It’s My Life

On Friday then, we kick off at midday with another selection from The Vault as usual.

This time from the year that Corrie's Alan Bradley got hit by a tram in Blackpool when he was chasing Rita.

    Peaches Geldof was born.

And 'Honey I Shrunk The Kids' was out at the pictures.

Then later we'll give you the final chance to get into the draw for the big VIP day at Withdean on Saturday, thanks to Howlett Clarke Solicitors. www.howlettclarke.co.uk

...you're supposed to do all that redundant nonsense when talking about the 80's right?
We just play the songs during The Vault at midday...although I did play an old Weetabix tv ad with Chris Ellison on today from 1986:

Eurythmics - Thorn In My Side
Bruce Hornsby - The Way It Is
    Big Country - Look Away
Five Star - Rain or Shine
    A-ha - I’ve Been Losing You
    Steve Winwood - Higher Love

Wednesday is the middle of the week.
In Latin based languages it's easily recognisable as being named after the god/planet Mercury...over here it's an Anglo Saxon god, Woden, that you've probably never heard of.

I feel we're getting sidetracked somewhat from the matter in hand...
Wednesday's Vault selection is from the year that Chris Martin was born

That Sex Pistols album came out

And Roger Moore was James Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me

Plus, there's the last chance to win family passes to Playhouse Disney Live at the Brighton Centre on Thursday.

    Be lucky

...whatever you wanna call it (the 3rd one there is Polish for Monday by the way), it heralded the first Vault selection of the week, from 1996:

Ocean Colour Scene - Riverboat Song
Lisa Marie Experience - Keep On Jumpin’
Eric Clapton - Change The World
Space - Female Of The Species
Sleeper - Sale of the Century
    Supergrass - Going Out

On Tuesday we kick off with another selection from The Vault at midday...
This time from the year that Amir Khan and the Olsen Twins were born (what do those twins actually do, by the way??)

There's another chance to get the family along to the Playhouse Disney show on Thursday at the Brighton Centre.

And, get yourself into the draw for the VIP treatment at Brighton's final game of the season this Saturday at Withdean.

And, remember the old days when you weren't allowed to start a sentence with 'And'.
