Saturday, August 18th 2012 00:56

A 46 year old man has died the day after being the victim of an assault near the Premier store in Hydneye. There had been an altercation with a group of teenagers between 7 and 10pm on 16th August.

The 46-year-old man, who was assaulted by teenagers  in Eastbourne, has tragically died.

The local man had suffered serious head injuries after being punched and kicked following an altercation with a group of teenagers outside the Premier convenience store in the area of the Hydneye.

He was taken to the Eastbourne District General Hospital where he never regained consciousness.

Detective Inspector Wendy Burton, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "It's so tremendously sad that this man has died, an absolute tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family.

"We are doing all we can to learn about what happened that night, the circumstances that led to this attack and now his untimely death. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area last night and who may have any information, however small, to come forward. They should call 101 quoting Operation Delaware or anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Supt Trevor Botting, East Sussex Division command, said: "The community is shocked by this horrific incident. We will be talking to residents during the coming days to reassure them and keep them informed about the investigation. I urge anyone who has any information to contact police."

A 13-year-old local boy, who was arrested earlier this afternoon, has now been arrested for murder, along with a 19-year-old local man.
